Israel charged a prominent Palestinian teen activist with assault and 11 other counts on Monday.
16-year-old Ahed Tamimi was arrested last month after a video went viral showing her and her cousin slapping and kicking Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.
In the video, the soldiers refused to retaliate. The incident occurred moments after Israeli forces had shot Tamimi's cousin in the face with a rubber bullet. Tamimi has been hailed as a hero by Palestinians who see her as bravely standing up to Israel's occupation of the West Bank. However, Israelis have accused her family of using her as a pawn in staged provocations.
