Leung Chun-ying has been elected as the vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), announced Yu Zhengsheng, Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC during the closing meeting of its annual session on Monday.
Leung has been serving as the fourth-term chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since 2012.
This year, Hong Kong will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its return to the motherland and a new chief executive will be elected.
Leung announced late last year that he would not seek re-election in 2017 due to family reasons.
