Chinese high jumper Wang Yu has been nominated for this year's International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Athletes’ Commission, a prestigious panel of track and field stars representing the sport.

Out of the 15 candidates, six will be chosen. Their role is to participate in promotional and community initiatives and ensure athletes’ voices are properly represented in the decision making processes of world athletics such as agreeing rules and regulations.

Wang, 26, is one of China's top athletic performers and is also a full-time graduate student at Tsinghua University. His personal best of 2.33 meters won him a silver medal at the IAAF Shanghai Diamond League meet in May.

Wang has also won several national titles and will participate in this month’s upcoming IAAF London World Championships.

The names of the other six elected members for the commission will be announced before the end of the event in the British capital and they will start their duties early next year.
