12 universities from China have made it onto the QS World University Rankings, an annual list of the 100 best higher education institutions in the world.
The latest edition of the rankings – the 14th – shows that of the Chinese universities included on the list, six of them are from the Chinese mainland.
Among these, Beijing's Tsinghua University ranks highest at number 25, putting it ahead of UC Berkeley (27th) and the University of Tokyo (28th).

China is home to more top 100 institutions than any other Asian nation. It ranks ahead of Japan (five), South Korea (five) and Singapore (two). Only two countries are home to more elite universities: the United Kingdom (16) and the United States (31).
Progress has been made in Chinese universities' ability to attract global talent, with QS noting that the international faculty ratio and international students' ratio is impressive.
QS has been compiling university rankings since 2004.
