Beijing has issued this year's first orange alert for air pollution. The alert is in effect from Saturday to Monday. The Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau says today's air quality is at the medium or heavy pollution level, and the main pollutant is PM 2.5.
The smog is expected to disperse on Tuesday. Under the emergency plan, officials have inspected nearly two-thousand construction sites, and 43 of them were suspended. Some heavy polluting vehicles are banned from roads. And residents are advised to stay indoors.
