World's highest late-gothic altar celebrates 500th anniversary

An event was held to pay tribute to its creator, wood-carver Master Paul, who is considered to be the greatest medieval artist of Slovakia. /VCG Photo

At 18.62 meters high and 6.72 meters wide, the altar is the highest, late-gothic altar in the world. In the altar cabinet there are three monumental sculptures of Madonna with a baby, Saint Jacob and Saint John the Apostle. The lower part portrays the Last Supper. /VCG Photo
