One employee trapped in the Marshal Hotel has been rescued after 14 hours. But his colleague unfortunately did not make it. CGTN's Wang Yushen has more.
A collapsed wall separated two employees of the Marshal Hotel from the rescue team.
Digging at the rubble with just their bare hands, the rescue team finally made breakthrough after 14 hours. One employee was rescued without major injury. But his colleague was found without vital signs.
RESCUE WORKER "The floors crashed straight from the 3rd to the bottom, leaving only minimum space between the floor slabs. We managed to lift the slabs and saved the trapped."
Search and rescue operations now enter a second day. Damaged buildings continue to lean at sharper angles, and now, rescue workers must race against time. WYS, CGTN.
