World Economic Forum 2018: Tianjin adds vitality to Summer Davos
[]
The northern city of Tianjin has held five "Annual Meetings of the New Champions", better known as Summer Davos. And it seems to be a partnership that's working well for both. While the forum has brought fresh opportunities to Tianjin, the port city is also injecting vigor and vitality into the forum. Our reporter Zou Yun has more.
"The World Economic Forum will have two pillars, one is Winter Davos, the other Summer Davos." This is what Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum said when the first Summer Davos was held in Dalian in 2007. Alternating between Tianjin and Dalian ever since, the annual forum has become one of the most important global business gatherings in Asia. China has remained a strong engine for the global growth in the meantime, serving as a stabilizing factor in a world full of uncertainty. Tianjin and Dalian are using the WEF platform to help many multinational companies find their feet in the country. Indeed, Tianjin is home to more than 160 Fortune Global 500 companies, and their success is now attracting even more international players.
GAO YUKE VICE GENERAL MANAGER, TEWOO GROUP "Tianjin has strong regional advantages. Summer Davos has become a showcase to display its latest development, investment environment, and industry policies. Those factors are drawing companies from home and abroad to come."
Apart from the economic benefits, many international guests have also taken to Tianjin's rich culture, as well as its spirit for innovation and collaboration.
DAVID AIKMAN CHINA CHIEF REPRESENTATIVE OFFICER WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM  "What's been wonderful on the culture side is that the city always supports an evening of China culture. We also have tea station where China can represent some of its traditional arts and cultures. Cities like Tianjin are now organizing other events like AI summit and so on. They are able to bring that thinking and their experts from city to the international dialogue and that enriches with China's perspective, but also allows them to bring international perspectives home to their cites."
ZOU YUN TIANJIN "With China becoming much more active in global gathering like the Davos forum, Chinese culture, values and wisdom are also gaining increasing influence on the world stage. And the deeper cooperation between China and Davos is also generating new momentum, as well as opportunities, to stronger and more vibrant global economy. ZY, CGTN, BJ.
