In Afghanistan, ISIL has claimed responsibility for an attack on an army outpost near a military academy in Kabul which killed 11 soldiers. Quan Chenchen has the details.
The Afghan capital is once again hit by violence. Five gunmen and suicide bombers launched a pre-dawn attack on an army outpost near one of Afghanistan's main military academies on Monday. Hours later, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility. Authorities say the assault is now over.
CAPITAN SAYYED RAHMAN AFGHAN SPECIAL UNIT COMMANDER "When we arrived, we used force to defeat the enemies and killed them. We confiscated their weapons and moved soldiers who were wounded and martyred."
The attack is the third major one in Kabul in recent days. It comes just two days after an ambulance bomb killed more than 100 people. And over a week ago, an attack on the Hotel Intercontinental killed more than 20. Both were claimed by the Taliban. Residents are frustrated at the deteriorating security situation.
JALAI KABUL RESIDENT "Look at what is happening to this nation -- when you are not able to control the current situation, it's better you resign. You are not even able to secure the city, how can we complain about the government securing the provinces?"
The US military and Afghan government say big attacks on Kabul are evidence that the militants are being squeezed in the countryside. But whatever the reason is, it is obvious that violence in the Afghan capital is on the rise. QCC, CGTN.
