Stalingrad Victory: Russians celebrate 75th anniversary of decisive victory
[]
Russia has marked the victory of the epic Battle of Stalingrad, 75 years on, with a military parade in Volgograd, as the city is now known. Civilians and war veterans came together in the southern Russian city to remember the soldiers who died. Historical plays were staged at the renowned Pavlov's House, one of the few buildings remaining after the battle. President Vladimir Putin later will deliver a speech. Fighting began in the summer of 1942 and lasted more than 200 days until February of 1943. Victory stopped the Nazis from advancing on the Eastern Front of World War Two.
