It's been almost seven years since Syria entered a war, and there have been multiple attempts to bring back stability to the country over the years. From 2012 to 2014 there were various other attempts, including the Geneva I and II Conference on Syria. The Vienna peace talks for Syria began in October 2015, with participants of 20 powers and international organizations. In November 2015, the Vienna talks resulted in a peace plan for Syria. In December, it got a UN Security Council endorsement, known as resolution 2254. Peace talks continued in 2016 and 2017, in various locations, including Lausanne, Astana and Geneva. Several attempts have fallen flat as Syrian government forces have recovered large swathes of the country from rebels since 2015.
