Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is calling for an international mechanism led by the UN to resolve the conflict with Israel. Abbas made the appeal when meeting the Dutch Foreign Minister in the West Bank city of Ramallah. He was referring to the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and plans to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Abbas re-affirmed the aim to end the occupation by Israel and establish an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as the capital, based on the 1967 borders.
