In South America, ex-Barcelona and AC Milan forward Ronaldinho has announced his retirement. The 37-year-old calling time on a glittering twenty-year career which saw him win titles in four different countries and most notably the World Cup with Brazil in 2002.
The forward last took to the field professionally for Fluminense in 2015 but had not officially hung up his boots. After coming through the ranks at Gremio, the Brazilian made his name at PSG before Barcelona brought him to the Nou Camp for 30 million Euros in 2003. There he would go on to win La Liga twice and the Champions League. He was named the Ballon'dor winner in 2005 and also UEFA player of the year in 2006, the same year he won Europe's biggest prize with Barca. A spell in Milan followed in 2008 where he won Serie A before returning to play in Brazil in 2011.
