Our Story: Ice Boy
[]
This is the road on which Ice Boy Wang Fuman braves the cold, 4.5 kilometers for over an hour, every school day. Same road, but new clothes. His thin coat has been replaced. The school, previously unknown to many, now crowded with people with warm hearts. Clothes, money -- all kinds of donations pour in.
QUE MEI DONOR "We want kids to have a warm winter and study well."
DONOR "I saw on the news the little boy braves the cold and ice to go to school. I was really touched."
Feeding pigs and cows, and cooking are daily routine for 8-year-old Fuman. One hour is the average time for most of the village kids to walk to school. And they say they all get icy hair, too. His new-found internet fame brings changes to his family, classmates, and entire school.
WANG GANGKUI WANG FUMAN'S FATHER "He used to have only one or two pieces of clothing. His clothes were ragged and he wore little. Now people have sent him new clothes and he dresses much better. He feels so happy. Some people called to ask where he will go to study. They say they'll pay the fees. He feels so happy and wants to study hard."
FU HENG, HEADMASTER PRIMARY SCHOOL "Now the heating problems have been solved, and many quilted coats have been sent to the school. Almost every student has been given one or two quilted coats. Some students have been given 500 yuan."
So far, seven thousand yuan, just over a thousand US dollars, has been given to Wang's family. The equivalent of 15-thousand dollars has been donated to the school.
The generosity is overflowing, and will be kept in store, to make sure the kids keep warm this winter. Paolo Montecillo CGTN.
