In the English Premier League, Alexis Sanchez has officially joined Manchester United from Arsenal in a swap deal with midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The 29-year-old's contract ends at the conclusion of the Gunners season and signs on the dotted line at Old Trafford in a four and a half year deal worth 14 million pounds after tax.
The striker had been the subject of much speculation in the summer after being linked with Manchester City in a 60 million pound swoop. Following the failure of that deal materializing, Man City were linked with the Chilean, but boss Pep Guardiola pulled out of the race, citing the belief in making him the highest paid player at the club would affect team morale. Sanchez scored 80 times for Arsenal since signing from Barcelona in 2014 and is his country's all time leading goal scorer, netting 39 times in 119 appearances. He will be available Saturday in the F.A cup fourth round at Yeovil and has been given the famous number seven shirt previously worn by George Best, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Heading in the opposite direction is midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan who leaves Manchester after a modest time at Old Trafford. The Armenian could only manage ten Premier League appearances this season and struggled to hold down a place in the starting eleven since joining from Dortmund in 2016. After being named Bundesliga player of the year in his last season in Germany, the 29-year-old didn't start a game for the Red Devils for three months and ends his tenor with the 20-times Champions of the England with 63 appearances and 13 goals.
