Kevin Durant has been named MVP of the NBA finals for averaging more than 35 points in the five-game series. He is just the third player to be named Finals MVP in his first season with a team. The Golden State Warriors are champions again, for the second time in three years, after they beat defending champions Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 in Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals.
It was the first title for Durant, and he moves among the game's greats for his performance. His 176 points is the second most for a five game series, with only Allen Iverson scoring two more points for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Durant is also the fifth player to score 30 or more points in the first five games of the NBA Finals. Elgin Baylor, Rick Barry, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal are the others. Durant joins Jordan and O'Neal as the only players to score 25 points or more in their first 10 NBA Finals games.
