China's leaders meet Mongolian PM ahead of Belt and Road Forum

‍Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Mongolian Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday, Xinhua News Agency reports.

Ahead of the Belt and Road Forum in the Chinese capital on May 14-15, President Xi called for Mongolia to actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Mongolia is a geographically important country along the Belt and Road route. As such, China hopes that Mongolia can play a role in connecting Asia and Europe, said Xi.

In a bid to realize the Belt and Road Initiative and Mongolia's Prairie Road development strategy, the two countries are expected to expand cooperation in a myriad of sectors, including trade and investment, connectivity, agriculture, animal breeding and energy.

Xi also called for efforts to promote the construction of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor to boost the mutual development of the three nations.

He noted that the Chinese side attaches great significance to the development of China-Mongolia relations. Both sides should uphold the principles of mutual trust, cooperation and win-win outcome, and take opportunities to broaden exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Meanwhile, Mongolia's prime minister said his country understands the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative in solving the unbalanced, unstable development of mankind, and boosting world peace and development.

‍Premier Li and Mongolian Prime Minister also held talks, and both agreed to strengthen cooperation on areas including cross-border trade and port construction, housing construction, energy and resources utilization, agriculture and animal husbandry.

After the talks, they attended a signing ceremony where bilateral economic and trade as well as cultural cooperation documents were inked.
