Rising populism has brought the European Union to a crossroads. But in an interview with CGTN's "World Insight with Tian Wei" at this year’s Boao Forum For Asia, former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin urged countries to instead carry out reforms and embrace openness.
He also expressed support for China’s One Belt and One Road Initiative, describing it as "a world project."
“When we are working together, we don’t make war. The question right now is how to support peace. I think such a project is for peace…and the vision is for the whole world,” he said.
The theme of this year’s Boao Forum is “Globalization & Free Trade: The Asian Perspectives”. As one of the board members of the forum, Raffarin said globalization was necessary to the world.
“When we have problems in a country, problems are not caused by globalization. The problem is less reform in the country. Globalization is not the enemy. We have to adapt our organization to globalization,” he said.
