Astro Boy, a Japanese icon and beloved childhood friend for a generation of manga lovers, has come to life. 

The robot is equipped with sophisticated facial recognition and can respond to conversation. The prototype was designed and built by the publisher of the Astro Boy series along with five other leading Japanese tech companies, according to national broadcaster NHK.
