Pyongyang is likely to hold a military parade to mark its Army Day on February 8th, a revised date from the previous April 25th celebration. But South Korea's envoy to China has warned against "too much reading into the event". At a conference held last week in Shanghai with China's think tank the Charhar Institute, Ambassador Noh Young-min said February 8th used to be the DPRK's official date, to mark its army's foundation with military parades. He said Pyongyang had decided to scale down this year's parade in consideration of the Winter Olympics. The military showcase was planned to be much bigger for this year which sees Pyongyang's military turn 70. He said some media reports were over-exaggerating the impact of Pyongyang's military event, and the ensuing intensity would do no good to the peace of the Korean Peninsula.
