More now on the Chinese economy. Fresh numbers show that China's logistics activity fell slightly in November due to seasonal factors. Our Michelle Van Den Bergh has the story.
The Logistics Performance Index slid to 56.6 percent in December from 58.6 percent in November. The decline was attributed to seasonal factors as the index usually dips at the end of the year. Still, the reading was well above the 50 percent mark that separates expansion from contraction.
HE HUI, DEPUTY DIRECTOR CHINA LOGISTIC INFORMATION CENTER "Sector wise, express delivery, rail and road transportation remained exuberant. The logistics business of food, textiles and daily necessities were very active as the holidays approach. "
The sub indices showed that the capacity utilization and employment rates fell 2.3 and 2.4 percentage points, respectively. That was due to slower construction and production activity and declining logistics business. The approaching Chinese lunar new year also contributed to the decline in the employment index.
Meanwhile, new orders came in at 53 while business expectations stood at 55.8 percent. Analysts say that the data means that logistics activity will remain stable over the next two months.
