A number of people remain trapped in at least seven villages across as northern Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, as heavy rain battered the area on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.
Rainstorms caused landslides in mountainous areas and flash floods in several towns in the northern part of Guangzhou since early Sunday morning, bringing certain areas to a standstill.
Precipitation in the districts of Huadu, Huangpu and Zengcheng reached 250 millimeters. A dam breach was also detected in Huadong Township.

More than 200 civil servants, including police officers, have been dispatched to the area as rescue operation goes underway.
