Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that cooperation is “the only right choice” for the Sino-US relationship, during a meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
At the China Development Forum in Beijing, Amway’s president Doug DeVos spoke to CGTN’s Ming Tian about his views on Sino-US relations.
Trump's election slogan “America first” has worried many that policies under Trump’s administration will be more aggressive. But DeVos said "America first" did not necessarily mean “America only”.
Instead, Trump “is referring to those workers in our country who feel disconnected,” he said.

Amid fears of bumps along the road, DeVos said he believed China and the US understood the significance of their relationship, and that he expected more discussion, dialogue and interaction between the two countries.
“America recognizes our role and relationship with countries around the world and very much China," DeVos stressed. "There's a lot of people who have worked many years to bring the relationship to where it is now and while there may be adjustments of some sort going forward, I think there's a lot of people working to make sure the relationship stays strong."

DeVos said the business community itself should contribute to improving this relationship.
‍"Anything the business community can do in that respect to support the relationship between our countries is something business should be heavily engaged in and with," he told CGTN.
DeVos noted that China’s role in the global economy had increased dramatically over the years.
“There is going to be a lot of wisdom needed, and a lot of dialogue needed,” DeVos said.
