Twenty-nine foreign leaders and more than 1,500 delegates from 130 nations attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing this week. But this is just the beginning for what Chinese President Xi Jinping described at the Forum as “a project of the century”.
“If you look at the success of the Belt and Road Initiative in the last four years, it is absolutely breathtaking," Helga Zepp-Larouche, founder of the Schiller Institute, told CGTN's Dialogue with Yang Rui.
"I am really shocked every day the Chinese government comes up with a new initiative which offers a solution to a problem. It's just a very attractive idea, this is why so many countries want to be part of it.”
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Xi Jinping promised that China will create a new model of co-operation and mutual benefits in advancing the Initiative.
‍“The Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping is an idea for peace, prosperity and the future goodness of all countries and mankind," noted Su Ge, president of the China Institute of International Studies.
"Because now we are thinking of the human race to have one destiny. We call it a shared destiny.”
The two-day Belt and Road Forum, which ended on Monday, was the first of its kind. China will host the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2019, Xi said.
