The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has proposed to send a high-level delegation to the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.
The proposal was made during formal talks between the DPRK and ROK, the first of its kind in more than two years. Pyongyang's delegation at the talks says it is willing to see athletes from both sides walking together in the opening ceremony. Five senior officials from each side are meeting at what's known as the Peace House. It's situated on the South Korean side of the Panmunjom truce village, in the DMZ.
Meanwhile, South Korea has proposed reunions of separated families sometime around the Lunar New Year holiday. Relations between the two sides deteriorated in 2015. That's when Seoul suspended a joint economic project at the Kaesong Industrial complex in the DPRK, after a nuclear test by the DPRK. The incident led to the DPRK breaking off communications with Seoul, including telephone contact. That year was the last time high-level talks were held between the two countries.
