Syria Conflict: UN hosts Syria peace talks in Vienna

The United Nations will make a fresh push on Thursday to start Syrian peace talks in Vienna. The two days of meetings come after eight previous rounds in Geneva - the last in December - failed to get the parties to even talk to each other.
The discussions have repeatedly stumbled over the fate of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Meanwhile, Russia is hosting peace talks in the Black Sea resort of Sochi at the end of this month. Some Syrian opposition figures claim these will run counter to the United Nations' peace initiative.
