The pre-election debate period kicks off in Russia three weeks before the presidential election. Four of the candidates are taking part in the first debates today on Radio Russia. All candidates will then appear in the TV studio together, to present their election programs.
Incumbent President Vladimir Putin is running for a second-term as an independent candidate, but he's refused to show up in the debates. The official election day is set for March 18, the anniversary of Crimea's reunification with Russia.
