Unmanned Science Boats: Sailing robots collect data from the oceans

Three Australian unmanned boats have been sailing the ocean controlled only by a smartphone. They headed out to sea last month, powered by wind and solar energy.
Two sailed east while a third was headed for the stormy waters of the Southern Ocean. They're for science equipped with instruments to record for a year the ocean's chemistry, temperature, and marine life.
