A quick wedding ceremony was held at a steel gate on the 2,000-mile border between America and Mexico last Saturday.
The Mexican bride Evelia Reyes wore a long white dress, American groom Brian Houston wore a light gray suit. They signed documents and exchanged their vows.
The groom said, “Even though we are divided by a giant fence here, we can still love each other on both sides of the fence.”
An attorney is trying to obtain a green card for Reyes to join Houston in the US. The process will take over a year.
Eleven other families also lined up at the border gate to see their loved ones from the other side. They all had three minutes time. It was the sixth time that the gate was opened since 2013. Previously the families were only allowed to talk through the steel fencing.
