The 8th World Water Conference is about to open in Brasilia. It's the first time the event will be held in the southern hemisphere. CGTN's Paulo Cabral reports.
PAULO CABRAL BRASILIA "The World Water Forum is the largest conference on water security in the world that kicks off here in Brasilia on Monday. The theme for this year is sharing water. The idea is to share experiences and good practices for sustainable use of water. Over ten heads of state governments, including the Brazilian president, Michel Temer are expected at the event. More than 45 thousand participants from more than 160 companies and institutions are expected to register in over 300 sessions. Over the weekend, some related conference events have already opened like the citizens Village, where I am now. This is an expo for the general public where people can learn about strategies and technologies for the sustainable use of water and also experience these technologies in games and activities. Other highlights include the annual United Nations World Water Development Report that provides an assessment of the world's freshwater resources. This year, the report will focus on nature-based solutions for water supply and availability in the long -term. And the fact the Brasilia is suffering the worst water crisis in its history - with shortage and rationing - is a reminder of the importance of this theme. Paulo Cabral, CGTN, Brasilia."
