Artistic gymnastics wrapped up its final action on Thursday with China winning 8 gold medals out 14. Four of them came on the women's side where former Chinese gymnast Liang Chow has taken the reins for the games in Jakarta. Christy Scull has more.
Liang Chow was officially appointed the head coach of China's national women's artistic gymnastics team in June. In his debut, at the 2018 Asian Games, he helped China win four gold medals, including the team event which included five debutants.
Chow, a former Chinese national team member, came to the U.S. in 1991 when he was 23 years old, and became famous after first coaching Shawn Johnson to gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics games in the women's Balance beam. He then led Gabby Douglas to a first place podium finish in London four years later in the all-around.
In his years of living and coaching abroad, it was the coaching system in America that changed him as an individual.
The 2018 Asian Games is an important step for this young squad, but Chow's sights are set on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The team has performed well in Indonesia but fierce competition is right round the corner when the World Championships start in October. Christy Scull CGTN.
