Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is in Afghanistan for a day-long visit. He was welcomed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul on Friday. The two leaders are expected to discuss their strained bilateral relations as well as ways to counter terrorism in the region.

This is Abbasi's first visit to Afghanistan since he assumed office last year. According to the Pakistani foreign ministry, Islamabad wants to show its support for Ghani following his offer for talks with the Taliban.
