One of the important inspirations China has drawn from its four decades of reform and opening up is that China's development cannot be achieved without the world, while the world also needs China for its development, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday.
President Xi made the remarks while meeting with incumbent and incoming members of the Board of Directors of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in the southern Chinese island province of Hainan.
Building an inclusive, harmonious world
All countries should be committed to building an inclusive world and creating a harmonious atmosphere, Xi said.
China advocates inclusiveness and opposes the zero-sum game, which features a winner-takes-all and I-win-you-lose mentality, Xi said.
Nations that enjoy sound development and a comfortable life should let others have the same, Xi added.
"The Pacific Ocean is vast enough to accommodate all the Pacific countries," said Xi, adding that competition among countries, if there is any, should be a benign interaction, and problems and disagreements should be resolved through consultation.
China to connect the world's future closely
China will continue to staunchly stay on the path of peaceful development, pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening-up, and forge a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, Xi said.

The country will promote coordination and cooperation with other major countries, develop good-neighborly relationship with its neighbors, take a more active part in global governance, and work with the rest of the world to deal with challenges more effectively, the president noted.
Xi pledged that China will closely connect its own future with that of the world people and strive for both the well-being of the Chinese people and human progress.
Efforts will be made to further expand cooperation with others and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity to build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity, Xi said.
Belt and Road Initiative: Not an intrigue of China
Xi stressed that the Belt and Road Initiative is not an intrigue of China, as alleged by some overseas, but is aimed at achieving policy, infrastructure, trade, financial and people-to-people connectivity, building a new platform for international cooperation, and creating new drivers of shared development to benefit more countries and people.
"[The initiative] is neither the Marshall Plan after World War II nor an intrigue of China. It is, if anything, a plan in the sunshine," Xi said.
"What we uphold is seeking shared growth through discussion and collaboration," the president said.
BFA to advance common prosperity
During the meeting, Xi also called on the Boao Forum for Asia to continue supporting China's development and playing an active role in advancing common prosperity across the world.

As the host country of the forum, China will provide a broad development space for the forum, Xi said.
Established after the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the BFA reflects the consensus of Asian countries to make joint efforts to cope with challenges, and accords with the need for integrated development of the regional economy, Xi told the members.
Attendees at the conference recognized the necessity of promoting reform and innovation as the world undergoes a new round of development and profound readjustment, according to the president.
Politicians of all countries should make plans for their future generations and the long-term development, Xi said.
