The week-long holiday to celebrate the Lunar New Year is almost over, but in northeast China's Harbin, the celebrations continue as the star attractions at a polar animal-themed park use their songs to add to the festivities. The zoo, home to 600 different kinds of polar animals, is one of the first of its kind to show performances by polar species. Despite a government ban on animal performances put in place in 2011, such shows still continue. China Daily reported that many zoos and attractions continue to ignore the ban, with Sun Xiaochun, then the director at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, saying "animal performances are against public interest, animal protection and educational interests, and should be prohibited."
