During the Chinese New Year holiday week, Hainan received nearly 6 million tourists, which is larger than half of the local population. Flight tickets from Hainan to big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, have now been sold out for the next three days. Airlines also increased ticket prices. As of Saturday, a flight from Sanya to Guangzhou had a price of more than 6,000 RMB, up from 1,100. Local authorities say the Spring Festival travel rush will last until March 10th.
