The second press conference at the CPC National Congress in Beijing saw the media briefed on China’s ethical and cultural progress. CGTN asked about reform to the country’s cultural institutions in recent years, which has seen an emphasis on producing both social and economic benefits. Sun Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said that cultural products and services have both ideological and commercial demands in a socialist market economy and that one major challenge in deepening China’s cultural reform is to ensure cultural enterprises always pursue social benefits first while also making money.
