Former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has been taken into custody. He was arrested on Thursday night, shortly after the Seoul Central District Court issued the warrant.
The 76-year-old Lee served from 2008 to 2013. He's facing multiple charges, including bribery, embezzlement, tax evasion and abuse of power. Lee denied most of the charges. The court cited a risk of seeking to destroy evidence as reason for the arrest. A photograph of a handwritten message was posted on his Facebook account. It says I don't blame others. All are my faults and I feel remorse. Lee is the fourth South Korean president to be arrested over corruption. Yonhap reports Lee could be jailed for up to 45 years, if convicted of all charges.
