Doctors were only able to install a basic prosthesis in place of Liu’s right arm, all of which was lost. But the fact that Liu had a small portion of his left arm remaining allowed them to attach an intelligent bionic hand, controlled by his mind. /VCG photo

The hospital had already customized an electronic wheelchair and artificial legs for Liu, and then trained him to walk and deal with everyday tasks such as drinking and eating. The new hand can help him grab, scratch and hold things. /VCG photo
