The group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup continues in Russia. Yesterday Brazil earned their first victory of the tournament, with a 2-nil victory over Costa Rica. The Super Eagles of Nigeria got off to a slow start, but ultimately claimed victory over Iceland. And Switzerland edged Serbia in Friday's last match, winning late by a score of 2-to-1. CGTN's Dan Williams is in Moscow with all of the action.
DAN WILLIAMS MOSCOW "Brazil of course were luckless during opening match against Switzerland, and a lot are expected from them of course out of this tournament. It looked like it would heading to another draw, but two late goals, one from Phillippe Coutinho, one from Neymar, spared their blashes, it means now Brazil sitting a little prettier on four points, looking likely now to reach the knock-out stage, but of course not convincing. So that would cause some alarm for many of the Brazilian fans here still.
The other match, as you said, Switzerland coming behind to beat Serbia 2-1. Serbia taking an early lead, two goals though from the second half for Switzerland. It means this group now has Brazil and Switzerland both on four points, Serbia on three, Serbia probably need them to beat Brazil to go through to the knock-out round. So plenty of interests are still in that group.
The other group, as you said, Nigeria winning their match against Iceland. That means, actually, potentially good news for Argentina. Lionel Messi of course disappointedly lost for their fans yesterday. It means that group is a little more open now. Argentina would have to win over Nigeria to potentially to go through still to the knock-out round. So lots of intrigues, lots of drama, certainly plenty to look forward to, as this competition continues."
