Chinese President Xi Jinping has welcomed guests from SCO member states, observer countries and international organizations at a banquet in Qingdao. President Xi spoke during the dinner, pointing out that the SCO has become an important force for regional security and common development.

Xi said unity and harmony are part of the Shanghai Spirit. And the spirit's focus on seeking common ground while setting aside differences has won widespread international support. Meanwhile, a gala for the summit has been performed. Led by renowned film-maker Zhang Yimou, the team put on a spectacle of singing, dancing, and fireworks. In an interview with our reporter Su Yuting, Zhang Yimou told us about the features of the show and his thoughts on the theme of the summit.

ZHANG YIMOU DIRECTOR "The special feature of the show is that it will be on the sea and we use the city as the background. In other words, the backdrop to the show is vast. What we call the light show is actually the city's lights incorporated into the show. No other arena has ever had such gorgeous scenery. I think building a community of shared future for mankind is one of the themes of the summit. This summit will discuss a wide range of topics to make a plan for the development of people in the world. So the performance for the summit should conform to its theme. So I set up a part in which I will use many smiling faces of people to express the theme of a community of shared future and to show this is a great event."
