Earlier today, the new Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail-line began official testing. During the trial period, passenger-less trains will travel through four stations in the three cities every day. CGTN's correspondent Li Jiejun has more.
LI JIEJUN WEST KOWLOON RAILWAY STATION, HONG KONG "I'm now standing near the West Kowloon Railway Station in Hong Kong. From April 1st, high speed trains from Guangzhou and Shenzhen will arrive at the station for a trial run without any passengers aboard. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail is expected to officially begin in September."
It will take just 15 minutes for the commute from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, and 45 minutes from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. The total length of the railway is about 140 kilometers. It will help secure Hong Kong's place as a regional transportation hub and is expected to provide economic opportunities. Meanwhile, the rail link will connect Hong Kong with the National High Speed Rail Network, which is the largest high-speed rail network in the world. Many Hong Kong residents say it will provide them with much convenience and greater efficiency. Some said they would prefer to take the high speed train when traveling to the mainland. However, some said that the tickets are too expensive compared with the cross-boundary buses and ordinary trains. Even though, they say the high speed train will provide a nice, comfortable ride.
LI JIEJUN WEST KOWLOON RAILWAY STATION, HONG KONG "99 percent of the project has been completed, a joint border checkpoint is planned at the express rail terminal at the West Kowloon Station. It will serve commuters traveling between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong."
