Peng/Jin achieve best result of season to qualify for the free skate at ISU

The first day of the International Skating Union (ISU) World Figure Skating Championships in Milan took place on Wednesday with Chinese duo Peng Cheng and Jin Yang finishing sixth place.
Peng and Jin failed to qualify for the free skate at PyeongChang last month, and they decided to change their short program then, the duo skated to "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". 
They achieved their best result of the season, 71.98 points which put them at rank 6th after the first skate and qualified for the free skate on Friday.

The first place position went to the Olympic Champions Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot scoring 82.98, followed by the Russians Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov who got 81.29. The French pair Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres came in third with 75.32. 
Another Chinese pair Yu Xiaoyu and Zhang Hao also advanced to the free skate, scoring 71.31 to finish at ninth.
Unfortunately, the silver medalists from the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Sui Wenjing and Han Cong are absent  from the competition as Sui is currently dealing with a foot injury.
