We begin with the Beijing International Art Biennale. One of China's biggest art exhibitions has opened at the National Art Museum of China. Co-organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Artists Association, this year's event sees over 500 artists envisioning a common future. Shen Li tells us more!
This year, the event has 640 works on display by 567 artists from 113 countries.
Under the slogan "Colorful World and Common Destiny," it aims to build a bridge for cultural exchanges, and to push for innovation in the arts, as well as expanding the stature of Beijing as a global center for culture.
FAN DI'AN PRESIDENT, CHINA ARTISTS ASSOCIATION "Striving for a peaceful and harmonious future is a common theme for artists from around the world. We were grateful to see the artists have used different media and different approaches to express their visions of a better world, a better future."
SHEN LI NATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF CHINA, BEIJING "Since its first edition in 2003, the biennale has been focusing on the contemporary evolution of traditional forms of painting and sculpture, and their roles in merging Eastern and Western cultures."
LIAO QIN ARTIST "For this work I've mixed different elements from the past, the present and the future, showing people from around the globe, hand in hand on a boat, sailing to a better future. You see the boat and the river are like the Chinese Taichi circle, complementing each other, and there's also artificial intelligence, space explorations, representing scientific advancements."
The biennale has also incorporated installations, videos and multi-media works, in a way that more artists working with multiple media could better showcase their creativity.
Participating for the first time, the University of the Arts in the American city of Philadelphia has brought to Beijing a special display of contemporary art.
The exhibition runs at the National Art Museum of China until September 20th. SL, CGTN.
