Before I joined CGTN, I was a TV reporter in Shanghai. I enjoyed my job as a journalist, as well as the glitz and glamor of my hometown.
It felt within my comfort zone because I was in the same metropolis as my family and friends. However, I have always had a longing to see and experience a bigger China.

When I saw a recruiting ad from CGTN, I knew the moment had arrived to make a career move that would expand my world beyond Shanghai’s borders.
I became part of CGTN in February when it was just getting started. At the beginning, I was covering events in Beijing and later got assigned to Shenyang in northern China. The new job is full of challenges - much colder weather, a new social environment, and stories that I’ve never tackled before.

But I tell myself to embrace these challenges, and take full advantage of the opportunity to explore a different China.
To me the charm of being a journalist lies in living beneath the surface, and in seeing the world in all of its complexity.

CGTN gives me the platform to document my observations about China, and to share them with a wider audience.
My name is Cui Huiao, and I am a regional reporter based in Shenyang. Happy Birthday, CGTN!
