Relations between Israel and Iran have been tense for much of the time since the Iranian revolution in 1979.

And Israel continues to occupy Syrian territory in the Golan Heights that it seized in 1967. Since the conflict in Syria began, Israel has been accused of providing aid to al-Qaeda linked militants on the other side of the line of control. It's also carried out numerous air attacks, saying it was targeting Hezbollah and Syrian military posts. Israel said its goal was to prevent weapons convoys from Iran to Hezbollah in Lebanon. It also accuses Iranian forces of establishing a military presence close to the Israeli-held part of the Golan Heights.
