Palestinians have expressed their dissatisfaction with the US decision to speed up its embassy move in Israel to Jerusalem in May. The date proposed not only coincides with the 70th anniversary of Israel's independence, but is also on the eve of what the Palestinians call Nakba Day, the Day of the Catastrophe. Noor Harazeen reports from Gaza.
NOOR HARAZEEN GAZA "The first reaction came from Palestinian Authority government spokesperson Yousif al-Mahmoud who said in a statement, 'This decision is a clear violation of all agreements and resolutions and it will directly harm the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause.' The militant group Hamas said that this early U.S. embassy move to Jerusalem will start a new round of clashes between Palestinians and Israelis especially when the date coincides with Nakba day where millions of Palestinians were displaced and forced out of their homes, becoming refugees and the 70th anniversary of Israel's state. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said that he will travel to Brussels on Sunday to participate with six Arab foreign ministers and European Union foreign ministers on Monday at European Union headquarters to discuss the issue of Jerusalem and revive the Middle East peace process. But the biggest reaction came from the people."
ABED AL RAOUF SHAWAR JERUSALEM CITIZEN "To move it now, on the day of Nakba is showing no respect to the people who went through the Nakba and no respect to the Arabs in general on this day. It is provoking and they do everything to provoke us."
MUHAMMAD ABDALLAH JERUSALEM CITIZEN "Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine, that is the truth, and the U.S. decision was not made for our benefit. In a year or two, even three, they might kick us out of our country and it will become theirs and not ours. This is a really tough decision for the Arabs but the Arabs are not just, they are not right, they are standing alongside the Jews."
NOOR HARAZEEN GAZA "Palestinians here on the ground have called for rallies and protests on the border with Israel. Some Arabs on social media also are asking for protests to be held on Sunday. Noor Harazeen CGTN GAZA."
