CGTN’s Tracy Holmes had the chance to meet an Olympic volunteer, Kim Sejin, on Monday who is making a difference and improving the Games’ experience for so many people.
Kim was adopted by his mother when he was only two years old. His family name, Sejin, comes from his mother. Under her watchful eye, he was free to be passionate about anything, including sports.
His favorite activity is swimming. Although he was very shy when he first got in the water, he gradually became more confident as he continued to train. His goal is to become a professional swimmer, and he has won 130 gold medals so far.
Now, he is a volunteer in PyeongChang, and is working to help journalists, which has been a totally different experience for him. Kim has been unable to become a professional athlete, or an Olympian, so he wants to help the dreams of other athletes come true. He hopes winners can inspire young people and instill a sense of pride at the Games: “Please be a proud of your country, and please become a hero for the kids, who live in bad situations, or poor families. Even if they can’t see anything in their future.”
