Over six thousand people have gathered in Uganda's capital to celebrate the Kampala twins festival. The festival, now in its third edition, saw twins come together with their families and friends to share their life's experiences. CGTN's Hillary Ayesiga spent a day at the twins festival.
It's twins day out. And in pairs, they walk majestically. But to stand out from the crowd, each set of twin wears a unique attire.
JULIUS KAKURU TWIN "We decided to dress up like this because we are all Chefs. We have been working as Chefs for twelve years."
With pomp and flare, the festival was fun-filled day for the twins. The event is slowly becoming popular on the African continent. These twin brothers had to jet in from Zimbabwe to celebrate with their colleagues.
GIFT PETRO TWIN "In Zimbabwe, we do not celebrate twins even their birth. So if we go back to Zimbabwe, we will tell people this is a unique birth, we need to celebrate it."
HILLARY AYESIGA KAMPALA, UGANDA "This year's twin festival has attracted hundreds of people from across Africa. Organizers say interactions like this, will go a long way to strengthening relations among families and nations."
They now want to use this platform to market the country.
FELIX OSIKE EVENTS MANAGER "We expect to make it bigger, attract more twins from different continents. But we are also using it to market the country, because we think that when people come in here, they will go and see tourist attractions in the countryside."
But for these pairs, maintaining a strong bond is what matters most. HILLARY AYESIGA, CGTN.
