Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced his resignation on Saturday, citing fears for his life and criticizing Iran and Lebanese ally Hezbollah.
"We are living in a climate similar to the atmosphere that prevailed before the assassination of martyr Rafik al-Hariri (his father, the late prime minister). I have sensed what is being plotted covertly to target my life," he said.
In his statement, Hariri lashed out against Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group for what he said was their meddling in Arab affairs.
“Iran’s hands in the region will be cut off,” he claimed.
Hariri was appointed prime minister in late 2016 and headed a 30-member national unity cabinet that included the Shiite militant Hezbollah.
