Scientific R&D: Officials vow to increase gov't support in research

Chinese authorities announced on Sunday that more government support will be placed on improving the country's basic scientific research. Officials said new measures would step up technological developments, bringing China closer to becoming the world's leading innovator, in science and technology by 2035. CGTN's Ren Xueqian has more.
The goal is to ramp up the quality and quantity of scientific innovation by improving government support and encouraging research.

We're also improving the structures of state laboratories as well as the training of young and working scientists."
Based on guidelines set forth by China's State Council on advancing basic scientific research, innovation and research are key forces pushing the country to achieve greater productivity and development.
Therefore, scientists and researchers are encouraged to create, both through domestic and international scientific collaborations and exchanges.

Based on latest data announced by Ministry of Science and Technology, the country's overall investment in basic scientific research was over 80 billion yuan, that's approximately 12 billion US dollars, in 2016. Currently, Chinese scientists have made breakthroughs in various subjects including in neutrino, nanotechnology, stem cell research, human gene sequencing, and high-temperature superconducting materials.
